A comprehensive architectural and heritage value assessment that proposes guidelines for future interventions in the building of the Vratsa Cultural Centre. It is the first project of its kind in Bulgaria, aiming to preserve the architectural qualities of the building in the context of any upcoming renovations, reconstructions, or transformations.
The project includes an in-depth analysis of the building’s architecture, materials, and functions, along with an assessment of its current condition. Based on this foundation, specific recommendations were formulated for repairs and functional improvements, aligned with both user needs and the architectural integrity of the site. The Cultural Centre is approached as a living, active public space rather than merely a preservation object. Emphasis is placed on opportunities for improving energy efficiency without compromising authenticity. A material and colour palette was also developed to support future interventions. The project demonstrates how contemporary needs and architectural value can coexist in a balanced dialogue – an approach we believe can and should be applied to all types of building renovations, even when the site does not have official heritage protection.
